I am walking along Tandang Sora Avenue when my eyes catch a glimpse of a large green road sign that reads: “Walang Tawiran: Nakamamatay†I stare at it for a moment, then a memory about this same place flashed into my mind. I smile to myself, almost giggling. I see a newly-constructed overpass where people, among which students, vendors, and street children pass by each other.
I then remember what happened to me at this same place no more than a year ago, almost as exactly as it have been…
The January sun had been shining mightily and dominantly, surrounded by the cotton-like cumulus clouds. It was apparently rush hour. People of different faces and dresses were in each and every place our eyes could land on; people were as busy as red ants unceasingly preparing food for an upcoming calamity.
“Yes, a disaster seems rapidly approaching us, approaching me,†I thought dreamily. As a matter of fact, a friend and I were standing on the length of Tandang Sora Avenue, just after our least-liked afternoon classes. We were preparing to cross the wide road before us (as there was obviously no nearby overpass or flyover yet that time), without a clue what consequences lie ahead.
Most suddenly and most unfortunately, before I knew it, my feet have brought my body across the street, without my slightest command; I could even be almost certain that it might have been an undiagnosed nervous system disorder of mine, or perhaps a push of the devil whatsoever. Whichever the case, it happened. There was a bright orange vehicle blocking my left-side field of vision, making it impossible for me to see or foresee any fast-approaching vehicle. It was also too late for my friend to grab my arm and to pull me back into the side street….

Does RSS Rob Your Blog of Visitors?

“Won’t RSS Feeds rob your site of traffic? Matanong lang. nyaha.â€
This was an interesting question brought up by Choldmhist which he left as a comment on my post “Setting up RSS on Your Blogâ€.
RSS has proven to be a really helpful and useful feature to bloggers over the past years. Instead of scanning through your blogs for updates, RSS makes a life easier by automatically sending all the content of a reader’s favorite blogs to a feed reader of their preference.

There is only one slight drawback in using RSS, however. Readers are less inclined to visit blogs because they already have the content being sent to them automatically. In other words, they have no other reason to visit your blog anymore.
So regarding Choldmhist’s question, yes, RSS does rob a blog of its visitors.
Aha! So it was you who has been robbing my blog! To think that we trusted you!
So, why are other blogs insisting of having RSS when it has a negative effect on a blog’s visit rate? Why is Pinoy Blogero still offering those free customized feed buttons when he already knows the harm that RSS can bring to blogs?

Vox Bikol and its online quiz

If you answered “berry,” you got it right, as I did when I took this Bikol quiz that forms part of the newly built online home of Vox Bikol. Vox is the weekly newspaper I used to edit and for which I now write a weekly column.
Unfortunately, that was one of the only four I got right out of 10, prompting me this terse message: “Kaipuhan po na mag-adal pa nin bikol.” (You need to study Bikol more.)
The site is still work in progress, Julma Narvadez said, thanks to the effort of Fr. Tebelin and the Ina nin Bikol Foundation, Inc. which now publishes the paper. Julma’s late father, Joe, used to be the Vox publisher when I was with the paper, until his untimely demise.

And it’s because I’ve been tagged by Makoy with a meme that focuses the spotlight on the one being tagged. This meme is called “In the Spotlight“, as created by Christy of Christy’s Coffee Break.
Come to think of it…every blogger wanted some attention focused on them. Otherwise, why would they blog? Just to keep an online journal of what they do and of their thoughts everyday? Of course, not. If it’s the only reason, then they should have kept a traditional journal, instead.
Every blogger needs and wants to be heard. And so, I think this meme will serve all bloggers well.

As a motorcyclist I am affected and really pissed off by this resolution the MMDA had put up particularly to their top honcho Mr. Bayani Fernando. This thing is surely a descrimination to all law-abiding riders. Haven’t they know that this could also lead to red-tape and corruption.
A motorcycle should have side-mirrors is definitely a YES, a rider must always wear a helmet is very good. But putting a number on the helmet is big NO-NO for me! What do they think of us, a Taxi!? Helmets are private property of the rider and besides it will ruin the design of the helmet and even lessen the durability because of the sticker.

We saw it in the news. PBB ratings are not quite as high as its previous ratings. Why you ask. Well if you watch a single episode of PBB 2, you would notice that it is not as interesting as PBB 1. First of, the current personalities inside the house are not a good mix. The PBB 1 housemates were much more funny, colorful, and real. The current housemates are so dull, boring, and safe. I guess you can say that the second batch of housemates are really playing the game.The problem I think is that the current batch of housemates have seen PBB 1 and all the other editions. Therefore, they are more prone to act cautiously.

IN THE raging controversy at the Casureco II over an alleged P300,000 illegal disbursement used in the recent partylist election, one item that captured my interest is the purchase of some 100 prepaid meters by the current management, to the tune of more than P2 million, two years back.
Up to now, they remain unused, allegedly because of a software glitch.
Are we missing the forest for the trees here?
For a mere software glitch, the Casureco II management is letting a substantial capital investment, one that can bring it to stronger financial stability, rot away. This, I think, is an act more criminal than the rest.

Web content includes features articles, reviews, or opinions on current events related to science and skepticism. The Skeptic Reading Room also features debates like:
- Deepak Chopra vs. Michael Shermer on The AfterLife
- Jonathan Wells vs. Michael Shermer on Intelligent Design
In my particular interest is reading about creationism vs. evolution which have been the hot topic nowadays, with the noticeable increase in debates on the return of teaching creation based on the Bible as science in schools and the rise of creationist museums.
There are also, of course, a lot of articles that can introduce you to skepticism.
You can also subscribe to their mailing list, ESkeptic, and you’ll be sent their featured articles and reviews. I don’t think their magazine, the Skeptic, is available in the Philippines. However, you can subscribe to it online.

My dear blogger friend SexyMom has tagged me with “The Weird Things About You” meme but sadly I remember I’ve done this one 48 years ago. That’s why I am making this compromise post just to make up the fact that I can no longer do this meme. This will be a walk to the memory lane and it dishes some juicy personal stuff about me. I know that I used to be a queen of the Nile and never talked alot about my past but I realised that it actually gives you this feeling of freedom. Breaking the chains of guilt from the past is quite a relief. And I don’t care anymore what people might think of me because I know that they too have some skeletons in their closets.

Now, Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia and Cebu City Mayor Tommy Osmena’s telenovela-like drama should be a good subject for Komiks strip. Let’s take a look at its present status.
Both agree that their brewing word war over provincial lots is not affecting business:
“The best economies in the world alawys have ongoing disputes. There’s no ifs or buts about it,†said the mayor. “We call it democracy.â€
Meanwhile,
Governor Garcia said she didn’t see any slackening of investors’ interest in Cebu during recent conferences…like last week’s Philippine Investor’s conference.
Contrary to this, Cebu’s business leaders have a different take on the issue. Apparently, Like Cardinal Vidal, they want to end it. But Sun.Star Daily Opinion Editor Bong Wenceslao has a better idea - Why not let them Quarrel?

just came back from the dead and I can’t believe it’s been 3 months since I last blog…
Well, my mind was just wandering around lately. I don’t see myself in the future the way I plan to be… The heck. What else can I say ‘living’ in this fucked up place.
And now I am complaining! Damn!
But the hell, I was dreaming too despite the fact most of the time my mind was wandering around… and I guess it’s worth posting. Just to keep myself reminded in the future that there was one time in my life that I have dreamed so much…

If you are a regular reader of Pinoy Blogero, you may have notice that I always try to post something new every single day. With this much commitment, you may be thinking that I don’t have any more time left for other important things that a normal college student should have.
But in fact, I do.
I do this by making my very own personalized blogging schedule. This is to ensure that I could effectively budget my time and maximize all my time in doing more work.
Laying it all out
First, I lay out all my non-blogging activities that I have for the day on a sheet of paper with its corresponding schedules. I then lay out my blogging related activities and try to squeeze them into the free slots that can be found within the time table.
The first blogging related activities that I insert into the schedule are the ones that are of high priority. With this in mind, I label all those activities according to its priority.
