Self-sabotage
January 31, 2008
This is a guest post by Pradeep Mahesh (Maheshwari) from New Delhi, India.
We start a business or take up a job with the full intention of succeeding in our endeavor. Yet we manage to fail in many of our undertakings. Is it possible that we are ourselves to blame and the fault is in the self-sabotage that we may be practicing? It sounds ludicrous but we may be doing exactly that – albeit unknowingly.
In case you are the boss; in whichever capacity that maybe, begin with the question “Am I stifling my junior? Am I always there, looking over his shoulder and catching his each and very mistake before he makes them?â€. It does not require a very great intelligence to see that if the answer to these questions comes in a “yesâ€, the sabotage situation would be obvious. Why? The employee would become a nervous wreck to begin with and be constantly afraid. He would rather wait for the boss to take over and stop using his initiative. Human nature being what it is, in this over-bossy scenario it has been observed that the boss goes beyond the call of duty to correct and guide the junior, letting his vanity ride. He may even go to the extent of becoming abusive and forever critical and be seen as an ogre to be placated; in which case the junior would certainly stoop to lying and hiding unpleasant truths as much as he can to avoid censor. Soon the company’s working will go off-track. This is tantamount to self-sabotage. Juniors in their zeal to show off their capabilities can do the same.
WikiPilipinas Filipina Stories, A Contest
January 31, 2008
In line with the principle of honoring the diverse, beautiful, and powerful image of a Filipina, WikiPilipinas will launch a special portal, Encyclopedia of Philippine Women, inside the site which will compile and detail the achievements and triumphs of Filipinas everywhere. Its sister site, Filipiniana.net, will also have a Philippine Women Microsite containing documents discussing Filipino women, as well as selected texts from the oeuvres of Filipina writers. Through a combined effort for advocacy, WikiPilipinas partnered with Filipina Images to help promote a more empowering image of the Filipina. By having an online platform to showcase Filipina intelligence and talent, the goal of developing more empowered Filipinas becomes achievable.
Many participants, through this project, will discover that they can help bridge the digital divide and promote gender mainstreaming and gender equality.
To promulgate the advocacy, WikiPilipinas and Filipina Images websites will launch “Filipina Stories,” a writing contest with the mission of uplifting the image of the Filipina.

PANGASINAN STATE UNIVERSITY: Cheating Frenzy
January 31, 2008
“In a world of cheats, cheating gets
promoted as a “force of nature.”
“Everybody seems guilty of being
specious, spurious, and unctuous. The
truth is not here, but out there.”
Take the world of elections: Candidate
A loses, and, as though by instinct,
he blames candidate B for it, accusing
him of either ‘dagdag bawas’ (vote
padding) or ‘kaskas bawas’ (vote
shaving). But Candidate B glowers
because he has been preempted!
But in a case where all is crystal and
you could see the trails of what they
did of what really happend. The
obviousness of the crime?
New Theme - Another Theme Reboot
January 31, 2008
If you haven’t notice yet, my blog is now sporting a new look since last week. After a couple of days of customizing the CSS and PHP scripts, I finally decided to launch the new theme. My blog is now back with the blue and white look which is quite similar to the theme I use last year. Unfortunately, I had to change that theme last 3 (or 4?) months ago because of some incompatibility issues after upgrading to Wordpress 2.3.

New POEA Policy on Direct Hiring - How Will This Affect Us?
January 30, 2008
(I wrote this post in my Multiply site and cross-posted to my Blogger site in the hopes of reaching more readers. This is a problem that does not only apply to doctors who wish to work abroad, but any other OFW who obtains his job through direct hiring. Please let people know about this new ruling - especially your friends and relatives who will be the most affected by it. You may sign a petition for its abolition over here if you agree with me.)
I posted this message on the Pinoy MD forum last night, in the hopes that more fellow doctors will be made aware of this new policy on Direct Hiring. I know that most of my contacts and most of those in my extended network are young doctors like myself, who are considering going overseas for training and employment opportunities.
As doctors, most of us who seek work abroad do not go through recruitment agencies but rather apply on our own and are hired directly by hospitals we are matched to in the US or are accepted into (in other countries). Since I see no provisos in the copy of the memorandum (you can get to read the full document over here) for doctors or other professionals, this will definitely affect our own bids to leave the country through direct hiring. This will be particularly problematic for colleagues who have been given H1b visas to the US. The rest of us who are to be sponsored on temporary employment visa will be greatly affected as well.
How it will ultimately affect us (and our chances for being matched and hired by hospitals abroad), I don’t know. But its effects will likely be detrimental rather than benificial given the recent economic slowdown and the fierce atmosphere of competition in the world at large. The POEA has just given foreign hospitals one more good reason not to hire Filipino.

Potato corner is now using turbo broiler
January 30, 2008
I know very few people who do not like french fries. Even those I know hate potatoes, say that french fries are the exception for them. French fries is one of those that actually differentiates McDonalds from Jollibee. I love McDonalds fries!
Potato Corner was the first french fry stall that offered flavored french fried potatoes. I am now imagining sour cream and onion flavored fries. Yummy! I never let myself pass by Potato corner without buying large fries.
Save Us from the Senate
January 30, 2008
If the Speaker has done the Senate wrong, then by all means eject him from his seat. But if he is to be replaced because he did the President wrong, then please, let’s raise our hands and cover our ears: we’ll be in for some nasty word wars and bribes.
The continued investigation into the ZTE Deal is causing another uproar, this time, spilling madness in the Speaker’s direction. For months, talks have been going around that some legislators, mostly the administration dogs, are taking up arms against him because their pseudo Majesty, the FG, has been painfully scorned by the Speaker’s son, Joey, in his testimony in the Senate inquiries.
The power struggle between Nograles and the older De Venecia is one crazy, if not, outrageous move showing how the government would do anything in their capability to hang on to power. The administration is one ugly scheming machine poised to rid it’s enemies by fishing out money they probably stole from wherever and spreading black propaganda.
Asiatrust and PayPal Bank Codes
January 30, 2008
I have been using PayPal for several years now since I have a credit card and savings account based in the US. But with my current setup, it’s very difficult to withdraw money since I have to ask my relatives to send it to me via money remittance. That’s why I was so happy to learn that I can now add Philippine banks with my Philippine PayPal account.Click here to read more
My Christmas Lover
January 30, 2008
It all started last night when my charms didn’t work for my Christmas Lovah. I was making “pa-cute†at him over the phone last night, (cheesy but I can be a little baduy when I miss someone so bad) I thought I made it clear how much I miss him and that I’m starting to hate him for making me miss him this much. (This is all his fault! I so hate him!)
Our conversation pretty much went well; he said he was still at work and that his day wasn’t toxic, blah blah blah, Until he gave a me a what the h*ll answer to a supposedly “lambing†hirit.
“I miss youâ€
“kakakita lang natin recently ah, nung saturday?â€
What the h*ll, right? Hello?! Tuesday na ngayon! You didn’t bother to text me or to wish me luck for my finals nung Sunday or nung Monday. A text would be fine, really. I’m not asking him to make me his top priority; I just wish I pass by his thoughts at least once a day or the most, once a day.
Here’s another winner, After our 3 minute conversation over the phone, I texted him if he would still pass by my place, he didn’t reply. FYI, village namin magkatabi lang.
This is the problem with girls, everything’s already in front of them but they don’t seem to get it. Our thing would not work because he won’t let it. C’mon! If he wanted to, he would make an effort, knowing him, he is that type. He can make you feel SPECIAL if he wanted to. I heard his stories.
Maybe I’m just pushing too much. I want this to work out though but if it’s just a one way street, walana patutunguhan. He’s just not into me. Period. Or maybe he is, but for other reasons.
It’s just ironic how a guy, who is your-friend-but-doesn’t-care-much-for-you, can easily take all your problems and worries in just a snap. As I’ve mentioned in one of my previous entries, because of him, I’ve started to live life again, I never knew life could be this better. Yes, I am and I feel very different when I’m with him. Our Christmas love affair would be remembered and, probably, laughed at. (because of its history and how it all started, haha! I just hope he doesn’t get a chance to access my new site, oh well, who the h*ll would read this?)
I don’t hate him. He’s just being a guy.
Honestly, I’m thankful cause he just proved my theory on men.
I just didn’t expect that he’s the one who’s gonna prove my own theory.
Life goes on, I’ve been through worse.
He made me happy, what more could I ask for?
